Giving interviews is the most basic science communication skill you need.
As an interviewee, you only focus on preparing to communicate your expert knowledge to a specific audience. Everything else (writing, drawing, producing, editing, publishing, promoting, etc.) is done by someone else!
I have been interviewing academics on a plethora of topics since 2017.
I condensed my experience as an interviewer into a set of rules which I follow and have since found confirmed by the experiences of seasoned science journalists with decades of experience.
From this experience I reverse-engineered this short tutorial series.
It conveys the core principles of how to address lay audiences and some basics about journalism and gives you actionable advice on how to prepare.
